Description

Victron BMV-700 battery monitor with SHUNT and integrated charge and discharge memory recorder.

Charge level indicator, autonomy indicator and much more
The remaining capacity of the battery depends on the ampere-hours consumed, the discharge current, the
temperature and age of the battery. Software with complex algorithms is needed to take into account all
these variables.
In addition to basic display options such as voltage, current and amp-hours consumed, the BMV700 series also displays charging status, remaining range and power consumed in watts.
The BMV-702 has an additional input that can be programmed to measure voltage (from a second
battery), temperature or midpoint voltage (see below).
Bluetooth Smart
Use the Bluetooth Smart dongle NOT SUPPLIED IN THIS MODEL to monitor your batteries from Apple or Android smartphones, tablets,
MacBooks and other devices.
Easy to install:
All electrical connections are made to the current shunt quick connect PCB. The shunt connects to
monitor using a standard RJ12 telephone cable. Included: RJ12 cable (10 m) and battery cable with fuse (2
m); no more is needed.
Also included is a front bezel plate for the screen, square or round; a fixing ring
rear and screws for front mounting.
Easy programming (with your smartphone!)
The user has a quick installation menu, and another more detailed one with sliding texts, to carry out the
different settings
Alternatively, you can opt for the quick and easy solution: download the smartphone app (the
Bluetooth Smart backpack)
Midpoint tension control (BMV-702 only)
This feature, often used in the industry to monitor large and expensive battery banks, is now
Available at low cost to control any battery bank.
A battery bank consists of a string of cells connected in series. The midpoint tension is the tension
which is obtained in the middle of this chain. Ideally, the midpoint voltage would exactly equal the
half of the total tension. However, in practice deviations may be seen that will depend on many
factors, such as the different state of charge of the new batteries or cells, their different temperatures,
internal leakage currents, capacities and much more.
Significant or increasing deviations from the midpoint voltage indicate maintenance
inadequate or a failure in any battery or cell. Corrective measures taken after an alarm
midpoint voltage can prevent damage to an expensive battery. Please consult the BMV manual for
more information.
Standard Features
- Voltage, current, power, amp-hours consumed and state of charge of the battery
- Remaining autonomy at the current download rate.
- Programmable visual and audible alarm
- Programmable relay, to disconnect non-critical loads or to start a generator if necessary.
- 500 amp quick connect shunt and connection kit
- Shunt capacity selection up to 10,000 amps
- VE.Direct communication port
- Stores a wide range of historical data, which can be used to evaluate usage patterns and status
of the battery
- Wide input voltage range: 6.5 – 95 V
- High current measurement resolution: 10 mA (0.01 A)
- Low electrical consumption: 2.9 Ah per month (4 mA) @ 12 V and 2.2 Ah per month (3 mA) @ 24 V
Additional Features of the BMV-702
Additional input to measure voltage (from a second battery), temperature or midpoint voltage, and
corresponding alarm and relay settings.
BMV-700H: Voltage range 60 to 385 VDC
No pre-divider needed. Note: Ideal for systems with only negative ground (battery monitor is not isolated
of the shunt).
Other battery monitoring options
- Shunt Lynx VE.Can
More about midpoint tension
A bad cell or battery could destroy a large and expensive bank of batteries. When the batteries
are connected in series, a timely alarm can be generated by measuring the midpoint voltage. Please,
See the BMV manual, section 5.2, for more information.
We recommend our Battery Balancer (BMS012201000) to maximize the life of batteries connected in series.
